Who’s Who?

Introducing the Who’s Who? corner of our monthly Newswire…

Each month we’ll interview one of the team here at KN to tell you a bit more about themselves and their role….after all, everyone loves a good nosey don’t they?!

Wayne Vernon, Chartered Financial Adviser

Kirk Newsholme Financial Planning

Wayne joined the FP team last year and has over 20 years’ experience working in the financial services industry. He has experience of working alongside practice clients and advising private individuals, family groups, trusts, charities, owner managed businesses, and larger corporations with a speciality in retirement planning and pensions advice.

Tell us a bit about your role and the firm

I am one of four Chartered Financial Planners at Kirk Newsholme Financial Planning, entrusted with giving high quality advice and support to a range of different clients.  As you would expect, the role is varied, ranging from providing relatively simple guidance and financial counsel, all the way through to constructing, executing, and maintaining potentially complicated ongoing strategies.  Whatever is needed, we are on hand to help ensure clients have the very best chance to meet their longer-term objectives.

As part of this ongoing relationship, clients need to be able to trust our advice and have ultimate confidence that we will deliver what we say we will.  Kirk Newsholme Financial Planning has all the right values internally to ensure we can keep delivering to clients for however long is needed.  I have advised and worked with many of my clients for 10+ years and hope and expect to do so for the foreseeable future.

If you weren’t a Financial Adviser what would you be?

Probably something completely different such as carpentry or landscaping gardening.  I love my job, and it is great to be able to help people and see the benefit this brings over the years. However, there is something about the immediate job satisfaction of cutting a hedge or fixing something which has been needing to be looked at for months.  Small accomplishments I know!  I don’t know if I am skilled or energetic enough to make a living from either trade but if I ever won the lottery I would almost certainly look to build my own sustainable home out in the countryside with its own woodworking workshop and ride on lawnmower.

What are you watching/reading/listening to?

I am terrible at finding the time to watch new TV series and instead favour listening to Podcasts whilst out running or driving in the car.  I will listen to almost anything, but currently I am enjoying ‘Parenting Hell’ by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe who have children of a similar age to mine.  I also enjoy autobiographies and have had ‘The Storyteller’ by Dave Grohl sat by the side of my bed for some time ready to start reading.  Work exams have taken priority the last couple of months but given what the band has recently gone through it feels even more poignant to read this book next.

Where is your Favourite Place? / What’s on your bucket list?

I’ve been very fortunate to visit some amazing places but New Zealand is a favourite. It has everything from fjordlands and glaciers to picturesque beaches. There are still plenty of places on the bucket list, including a Baltic Cruise.
