This Saturday our team of ‘pirates’ set out to Pugneys Country Park for the firm’s fourth ever entry into the Rotary Dragon Boat Race!
Possibly the fastest time should be given to the teams who set out for the day’s first race but were soon paddling back to safety after a crack of thunder and lightening struck directly above – new meaning to the term ‘lightening speed’!
After a slight delay and once the skies cleared, we were off again for good and can safely say this was our best set of races yet since competing in the event. We found our mojo in heat no. 2 and to our surprise, found ourselves being entered into the ‘Ladies’ finals where we were placed 3rd… Go Team! (the male minority of the team being equally happy to claim the title ‘Finalists of the Ladies Race’)!
Thanks to all those who took part this year, our paddlers, our drummer, Millie, and all those who supported and donated to our chosen charity for the event, Wakefield Hospice, for who we have raised over £2000 – worth getting wet for! Amazing effort and a huge THANK YOU to all.
