TEAM KN complete Charity 3 Peaks Challenge!
We’re thrilled to announce that our team of 16 trekkers completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks within the 12 hour challenge! With bated breath our team set off on the morning of 23 April and the odds were in our favour with clear skies and cool breezes.
Heading off with a (slightly false) sense of confidence, led by some of the more youthful members of the team, we were up Pen y Ghent in what felt like a matter of minutes, some of the less young amongst us starting to feel the nerves at the thought of keeping up the pace – especially as the cool breezes soon progressed to face-battering winds – none more so than at the summit of Whernside (resulting in several involuntary hugs with passers-by and echoes of “Janet… your walking pole!…” as it was whipped away in the wind).
With slightly less giddy enthusiasm, the second half of the challenge felt somewhat more of a struggle with concerns of mammoth blisters, lost toenails and wondering if we’d ever be able to walk properly again. Facing the impending Ingleborough felt like the toughest challenge of all but with weary legs and sore feet we clambered over the tops and some were even said to break into a sprint at the sight of the pub at the finish.
One thing we took away from the day was a huge sense of achievement – we completed the challenge together and it was the camaraderie and team spirit that got us to the end!
A huge THANK YOU to all those who supported us and donated to our chosen charities – Leeds Mind and The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) – Ukraine Appeal. With this support, we have raised over a fantastic £2,500 between these amazing charities!
