Tell us a bit about your role and the firm

I am a financial adviser at Kirk Newsholme, my role is to assist clients with their financial planning needs. This can be varied and encompass a variety of different scenarios. The common theme is that I try to bring a friendly, knowledgeable and straightforward approach and it has served me well in the last 15 years that I have been doing this role. The job allows me to build lasting working relationships and the satisfaction comes from being able to help people achieve their financial goals in the most tax-efficient way with as little risk as possible in what can be volatile markets and in an ever-changing legislative backdrop.

If you weren’t a Financial Adviser what would you be?

I gain sufficient job satisfaction in the role to be happy as I am so my clients are stuck with me for a while longer yet!

What are you currently reading?

I tend to listen to audio books or podcasts in the car, currently I am listening to The Plantagenets by Dan Jones, I am interested in historical things and it takes my mind off the traffic on the M62! I also like historical fiction and love books by Hilary Mantel and Robert Harris.

I am one exam away from Fellowship so sadly my attention will need to be focused on that shortly as I am not anticipating any questions on 13th century Britain!

Where is your Favourite Place?

I love being near the sea or preferably in it, even though I live in Halifax which has to be one of the most landlocked parts of Britain! On the positive side there are lots of hills and areas of outstanding beauty that it just about compensates and helps keep me fit and active. I am also a Leeds United fan so Elland Road is a regular and much loved destination!
