Who’s Who?

Introducing the Who’s Who? corner of our monthly Newswire…
Each month we’ll interview one of the team here at KN to tell you a bit more about themselves and their role….after all, everyone loves a good nosey don’t they?!

Clare Thomas – Tax Manager

Clare joined Kirk Newsholme back in 2004 as a trainee. She qualified as an ACCA Accountant in 2009 and then went on to complete her CTA tax qualification in 2015 and now works as a Tax Manager advising on all areas of tax to our clients across a range of sectors.

What sets Kirk Newsholme apart from the rest?

The team at Kirk Newsholme and their commitment to our clients is what really makes the difference here.  We genuinely care about our clients and their businesses, always aiming to go the extra mile to make sure we can help them to achieve their business goals.

Tell us a bit about your role

My role is very varied – the changing nature of tax and the diverse client base here at Kirk Newsholme means that no one day is the same. I can be looking at a Corporate Tax issue, followed by a VAT issue followed by a Self-Assessment Tax Return (especially at this time of year) but it keeps me on my toes!

I am currently heavily involved in helping our clients prepare for Making Tax Digital for VAT. This has involved getting up to speed with the new HMRC rules quickly to ensure I can advise our clients of the implications of the changes and advise on any amendments that may be required to the way that clients maintain their accounting records or how they submit their VAT returns.

If you weren’t a Tax Manager what would you be?

I love to bake so I think I would have a little café, selling good coffee and homemade cakes!

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

Honestly, I would love to swap places with the Queen for the day. I think it would be fascinating to see what actually goes on behind the closed doors of Buckingham Palace on an average day.

What are you currently watching?

I love a good boxset and have watched many over the years but currently I am watching Prison Break. I dismissed it initially as being too far-fetched but now I’m hooked!

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

I went to Australia a few years ago and Sydney was amazing! Closer to home, I love to go for a long walk on the beach at Filey, preferably in the sunshine!
