Who’s Who?

A rather special Who’s Who for July as we join Jill Wright in celebrating 25 years with the firm this month! Jill works across both our Business Services team and our Audit team, offering a full range of services to a variety of different sized businesses.

Jill Wright – Director

Tell us about your 25 years so far…

It’s hard to believe that just over 25 years ago I had my KN interview!!! Well, probably not the traditional style interview, but, in true KN style, it comprised a lunch time drink in the Duck and Drake pub near Leeds market!

Looking back, at that time, it was quite a strange move – from the relative security of a big firm to a new practice – but I can honestly say I had no reservations and knew it was the right decision from day one. I was lucky to have the support of my husband John and the confidence in Graham.

The world of accountancy has changed substantially in the last 25 years.  In those early days the four of us shared the use of one laptop!!! ‘Paperless’ was a thing of the future and instead there was just room after room of legal wallets and green files!

As the KN team has grown I have been fortunate to be involved in the recruitment process and really enjoy giving new people the opportunity to be part of KN, in the same way as I was given that opportunity 25 years ago.

Our social activities have certainly moved on over the years too – Christmas parties no longer cost only £3 per head (reminiscing one infamous BBC party) and it’s been a while since we’ve had a good old karaoke night (although I’ve heard Justin might be keen to reinstate that suggestion for a night out!). Our water sports activities have moved on too – such a long time since that white water rafting adventure in North Yorkshire but now we are into year three of our dragon boat race and still haven’t built any training into our plan – our results from Saturday probably reflect this!

Thanks to everyone for making KN a very special place to work.

What is your most enjoyable aspect of working at KN?

It has to be the people -I am so fortunate to work with some great individuals both within our own team and our clients.  I have made so many friendships through KN and have had the privilege to recruit so many people into our team and then to see them grow in confidence and develop wonderful relationships with our clients.

What is a typical day at work for you?

My days include a mixture of time spent supporting our team and helping our clients with their business challenges. I also really enjoy meeting new business contacts and exploring any opportunities for KN to support them in their businesses.  It’s fair to say that no two days are ever the same – and I love the variety of my day to day role.

If you weren’t an Accountant what would you be?

I’d love to be involved with all of those “stagey theatrical sorts”! – I’m a massive musical theatre enthusiast but without the performance skills! – so perhaps something like costume or set design – There’s probably a frustrated performer hidden away in me somewhere.

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

During the day it would have to be at the coast with John, Alice and Dan – whether it is Summer or Winter.  But during the evening probably Row G of the stalls in a West End or Broadway theatre – or actually performing on one of those stages! (in my dreams)!

What’s one of your pet peeves?

Not much gets me wound up – very little of value is worth that much stress!

But ‘Love Island’ and the constant desire of some young people to just be famous – not famous for anything of worth, but just to have some celebrity – I find that very sad and a complete waste of life.
