James Shaw – Manager, Audit
James has been with the firm for 12 years and works in the Audit department.
What sets Kirk Newsholme apart from the rest?
Kirk Newsholme are a family orientated firm to work for. They genuinely care about how you are doing in your career and invest in your progression. They also understand the need for a good work/life balance as I have seen more in the last few years when I have started a young family.
What is a typical work day for you?
No work day is ever the same for us in the audit department as it depends on what time of year it is and what I am working on. I mainly review statutory accounts, disclosures and ensure that the audit work is completed to a high standard.
If you weren’t an Accountant what would you be?
I think I would be a film critic, in addition to my well-honed skills of moaning about the British weather I do like to have a good discussion about a film be it good or bad
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
Whitby or Filey; I have spent many a day at the east coast with my children and enjoy nothing more than having fun on the beach making them laugh. I also proposed to my wife on Whitby cliff tops so it has many happy memories for us as a family.
What are you currently watching?
Dr Who, Bones, Instinct. My favourite genres are crime drama and sci-fi, I love a good mystery. We tend to try and find box sets to binge watch when we have spare time.
If you were a superhero who would you be?
I don’t know about a superhero but I always fancied being a Jedi knight.
